Temple Emanu-El San Diego, situated in the Del Cerro neighborhood across from San Diego State University, is a Reform Jewish synagogue. Imbued with a long history of civil rights work through that tradition, it was a no-brainer to look for a way to be an ally with the African American community. With the making of Juneteenth into a federal holiday in the United Sates of America, what better way than to participate in a Juneteenth freedom festival? So Temple Emanu-El, along with its partner the Anti-Defamation League of San Diego, hosted a booth at the Cooper Family Foundation Juneteenth Freedom Festival on June 17, 2023.
