February 2025 is a beautiful month here a Playing Together Project! In celebration of Black History Month, Black joy, Jewish joy, resilience and the Black~Jewish alliance, we are holding a scholar-in-residence weekend titled “Stronger Together”. Our featured speaker for the series of gatherings is Dumisani Washington, Pastor and CEO of Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel. He is also the author of the book Zionism and the Black Church.
Weekend Events
The weekend will feature the first-ever gathering of San Diego’s African American ministers and Jewish American rabbis. They will meet over breakfast at a San Diego synagogue to hear from Dumisani Washington. Dumisani Washington will also participate in a Shabbat dinner discussion with Black and Jewish university students in San Diego. There will be a havdalah lecture on Saturday February 22 co-sponsored by Temple Emanu-El San Diego. On the final day, Sunday, February 23, a ca discussion of a film on Black-Jewish coalition and Q&A with Washington will be sponsored by House of Israel. The weekend is closed out with the StandWithUs Herzl dinner – with Washington as keynote speaker.

(Hosted by Temple Emanu-El San Diego). If you want to attend the clergy breakfast and you are a San Diego rabbi, you should have received information and a registration form from the San Diego Rabbinical Association

Havdalah Program Registration
(Hosted by Temple Emanu-El San Diego). If you are interested in attending the Havdalah lecture at Temple Emanu-El San Diego on Saturday evening, please REGISTER HERE. You must be pre-registered to attend. The cost is $5. a dessert oneg will be served.
Sunday Discussion
(Hosted by House of Israel). We will be discussing an impressive film on the historic Black~Jewish alliance for civil rights in the United States of America. We will have a question and answer session with Dumisani Washington about where we can go from here, how we can do it and why it is importtant to rebuild the alliance.
